Jie Bakery and Confectionery – Three Decades of Traditional Bread

Living near the Tai Seng area, I have seen this bakery shop since I was young and after I returned from my Japanese language study in Osaka.  Even thought I was back in Singapore for more than five years, everytime when I drove through Upper Paya Lebar Road, I will take a short glance at the only shop that are still open along the line of shophouses where everyone else were closed. At times, you will see van (we called it bread van or 面包车) stopping along the road and picking up some of the prepared bread for delivery. Last week, my girl friend and I happened to finish work early and while we was traveling along the street, we decided to take a peek at …

Christmas Dinner at Orchid Live Seafood at Jalan Kelulut

Glass door of Orchid Live Seafood were pasted with photos of many celebrities that visited the restaurant. I am trying to catch up with my food blog while right now I am having my staycation with my girl friend at Ritz Carlton for our 2nd year anniversary. Anyway, we visited this restaurant on the Christmas day after a night of great BBQ and gathering with my friends (only few though) on the day before. We were trying to get a simple dinner at Serangoon Gardens but most of the restaurants were closed due to Christmas and Chomp Chomp Hawker just does not appeal to me. Instead we loitered around Serangoon area before reaching Jalan Kelulut for Orchid Live Seafood. I have visited this restaurant about two …

Collagen Rich Ramen Lunch at Tsukada Nojo Westgate

Well, the graduation lunch was not actually for me. It was my girl friend’s sister whom has just graduated and we did not wait for the buffet at the institute as there was too many people so we decided to shift to Westgate for our lunch. Maybe it was a weekday and noon time, we are fortunate that the crowd wasn’t there and we need not wait to get a seat. Special Sushi Birthday Cake at Teru Sushi (Former Akira Japanese Restaurant)

Entrance of Teru Sushi at Link Hotel. It was my best friend’s birthday and we thought of giving him a treat as his birthday present. (Correction: I was too lazy myself to shop for a gift hence giving him a treat is the only way to cover my laziness). We have made reservation for a private room with tatami seats. Of course, if you dislike folding your legs, you can choose for normal tables or sushi counter instead. While the male lead is late for dinner, we ordered some appetisers for our empty stomachs. The Appetisers Pitan Tofu (Homemade Tofu with Pitan Sauce). Sprinkled with chopped spring onions and topped with Ebikko. Price $ 6.00. I first encountered Pitan Tofu in a Japanese restaurant in Robertson …

Quiet Dinner at The Public Izakaya by Hachi (大衆酒場)

Outdoor seating at The Public Izakaya. My friend whom has been assigned (or volunteered) to work in Europe is back this weekend and she thought it will be good to have a dinner together before she fly off to Australia for her friend’s wedding. We agreed to meet at Tanjong Pagar, but did not fixed a place for our dinner. While we strolled along Tras Street and saw this Japanese restaurant right opposite of the Imperial Apple Spa, we settled down for our dinner. Stretch of wooden tables and chairs. Maybe we was early for dinner, about 7.30pm when we arrived. As the time gets late, the seats are being filled up rapidly, mostly by Japanese customers. In principle, if a Japanese restaurant in foreign land …

Relaxed Brunch at Fusionpolis Jimmy Monkey Cafe & Bar

Jimmy Monkey Cafe & Bar is tucked away in a corner at One North Residences shops. I was having a job nearby and my girl friend suggested to have our lunch at a nearby cafe, Jimmy Monkey Cafe & Bar. The cafe was opened by an Australian, Michael Ryan, has been staying in Singapore for the past 10 years. While he craved for the real coffee and cafe experience back home, he decided to open Jimmy Monkey to bring the ultimate experience in Singapore. Late Dinner at “Saturday” on a Monday Night

Located in the corner of a row of shophouses along Upper Paya Lebar Road.  I was meeting near my house bus stop while a glance and we notice the brightly lit signboard that wrote “Saturday”. In fact, two weeks ago we came by which they were still under preparation. Mushroom Soup with Garlic Bread. The soup tasted well but it was served warm rather than hot. Perhaps they could improved on that. They have applied garlic spread over the bread before toasting it. Loved it. Seafood Arrabbiata. Cooked with some shrimps, clams, squid and mussels in tomato sauce. On the first mouth of the dish, it reminds us of a similar taste which we had eaten before in the past. There was one period of time …

Wild Oats @ Punggol – Chilling At Night By The Reservoir

If you are looking for a place to chill in Hougang  / Punggol area in the night, you can go to Wild Oats @ Punggol. Besides serving drinks and small bites, they also have soccer match airing as well . You can just chat your night away. I was meeting my friends to discuss about some property-related issues while I order the Marina Top Shell which is new on their menu and the famous Chicken Wings with ultra spicy chilli sauce. Unfortunately, I suppose the Top Shells did not live up to the standard, as it was covered almost with cabbage which I almost mistaken it as a bowl of salad. The top shells are also thinly sliced with a lack of onions as well. Overall, …

Delicious Cabbage Roll and Mango Dessert at Ang Mo Kio’s Hong Kong Dessert (谢记)

Since I was still early for my hair cut appointment, my girlfriend had the sudden crave for dessert which she has been thinking for the past few weeks and highly recommended by many other customers as well for their desserts. The Hong Kong Dessert is located in a small shopfront at Jubilee Square. Looking through the glass windows, customers are scattered around the tables, chatting and enjoying their desserts. The entire shop is not very big and I think only possible to house about 12-15 pax maximum with their tables. We was greeted by a Malay auntie whom show us their menu. Surprisingly, given their small shop yet they have a large menu and best of all, it is halal as well. Initially, we was only …
